Statement
I explore diverse media from video installation to performance art to illustrate the perspective of being an Asian American immigrant. I focus on bridging the cultural gap between the people I spotlight and the viewers through videos. My documentation of linguistic elements from bicultural lives are often what disconnect them from American society, yet I bring these texts and speeches to expose the viewers to an intimate, foreign environment.
I concentrate on mixed viewpoints of American society by repurposing historical matters. I aim to capture the moral dissonance between the Western perspective and my identity which stretches to current issues such as media and technology. The vulnerability of viewers’ subjectivity when faced with historical, multi-perspective dilemmas is my question I have as a bicultural artist.
